Codex VS Code extension prompts “Upgrade to Plus” even though the signed-in account already has Plus
What version of Codex is running?
0.4.69
What subscription do you have?
ChatGPT Plus
Which model were you using?
gpt-5.2-codex
What platform is your computer?
Windows 10 x64 (desktop)
What terminal emulator and version are you using (if applicable)?
VSCode 1.108.2
What issue are you seeing?
Inside the Codex VS Code extension UI, the account menu shows an “_Upgrade to Plus_” option/prompt even though the account I’m signed into with already has an active ChatGPT Plus subscription. This is confusing and suggests the extension is incorrectly detecting the subscription status.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Install/open the Codex VS Code extension (openai.chatgpt).
- Sign into the Codex extension with an account that has an active ChatGPT Plus subscription.
- Open the Codex panel and open the account/menu dropdown (the menu that shows “Continue in: Local workspace / Connect Codex web / Send to cloud”, etc.).
- Observe that the menu contains “Upgrade to Plus”.
What is the expected behavior?
If the currently signed-in Codex extension account already has Plus, the UI should not show “_Upgrade to Plus_”. At most it should show the current plan (Plus) or no upgrade prompt.
Additional information
VS Code is signed into a corporate account (Plus), while the Codex extension is signed into a personal account (Plus). This may indicate a mismatch in how the extension selects which identity/subscription to display, but either way the upgrade prompt is incorrect for the signed-in Codex account.

How recently did you upgrade to Plus? there might be a small lag before the extension recognizes this.
I'm having this issue. as a work around I generated an api key and used that to login to the desktop app. Logging in the traditional way wouldn't recognize the upgrade even 24 hours after upgrading.
to add, after 4 days and logging in and out again multiple times this issue persists. I've tried with the desktop app and the VS code extension and it's still asking me to upgrade even though I've got a subscription. I have since cancelled the subscription as I don't want to to be paying for something that does not work, but the free trial is technically still running.
Quite recently.
Anyway, the plugin auto-updated and is now prompting a Pro upgrade. Given that the pricing is unacceptable here in Argentina, I'll be passing on that. Thanks for the fix, and hopefully OpenAI makes the service more accessible soon.
I have the same issue but on Codex itself, have been using Codex for 4 days, not once detected my plus membership
Did you login with Apple ID for chat GPT? Try using that as your Apple ID email it generated rather than personal email, if so.
I have the same problem, but when i tried to chat it seems like account is updated but it just shows up there. Still i shall try to contact any support available.
