Built something along these lines as a side project. A web client that connects to a local Codex app-server instance and relays events to any device.

Repo is here if you are curious: https://github.com/z-siddiqi/zane

The app-server JSON-RPC interface made this pretty straightforward to build on top of.

Maintainer of CodeVibe here. This is exactly the workflow I wanted too: keep codex running on your own computer, but monitor and respond from your phone instead of SSHing into tmux.

CodeVibe does this today as a sidecar/plugin rather than an official Codex mobile app:

  • codex still runs locally on your Mac/Linux/WSL machine
  • iOS / Android app shows the live session, tool calls, and approval prompts
  • you can send follow-up prompts or approve actions from the phone
  • desktop and mobile stay active at the same time
  • session events are end-to-end encrypted; the backend only relays encrypted payloads

Install:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://quantiya.ai/codevibe/install.sh | bash
  Not an official Codex feature, but it covers the “mobile app talks to local Codex” workflow while the native request here is still open.
For people who care more about controlling the same local CLI process than about a native mobile app, I’m working on a narrower open-source route here:
https://github.com/Snailflyer/faryo
Faryo keeps Codex CLI / Claude Code / shell inside tmux as the live session layer, then exposes a phone/desktop browser workbench for output review, short input, approve/interrupt, and handoff back into that same session.
It is not a native Codex app-server mobile client and not a replacement for the official mobile path. The current mature path is Linux + tmux + local CLI agent + browser/PWA. Sharing because the workflow in this issue — keep Codex running locally and steer it from a phone — is exactly the narrow use case it targets.
Remote Control lets mobile devices operate local Codex sessions.
