What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Codex 260205.1301

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What issue are you seeing?

  1. Open the Codex App
  2. Navigate to the model selector
  3. Click on any model other than the default one
  4. Observe: the selection briefly highlights the chosen model,

then immediately reverts to the default model

  1. The selected model never persists — repeating step 3 with any

model yields the same result

Expected: Selected model should persist and be used for subsequent tasks.
Actual: Model selection always snaps back to default.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the Codex App
  2. Navigate to the model selector
  3. Click on any model other than the default one
  4. Observe: the selection briefly highlights the chosen model,

then immediately reverts to the default model

  1. The selected model never persists — repeating step 3 with any

model yields the same result

Expected: Selected model should persist and be used for subsequent tasks.
Actual: Model selection always snaps back to default.

What is the expected behavior?

Hi! Thanks for reporting. We have a fix coming out addressing similar issue. Just to confirm, is this behavior happening before you start any conversation (i.e. new conversation)? Or you started a conversation and switch to a new thread and seeing a different model choice.

@shijie-oai it starts for me when i started new conversation and some times when i close the terminal and use resume it switches to default model and now i have to always double check i don't trust the cli currently hahaha until this bug is fixed.

This is still an issue, which requires me to restart Codex several times a day. @shijie-oai any chance on speeding up the resolution of this?

Yeah this one is REALLY annoying if you want to use a different model (eg spark) for a fast-mode quick scan, any workarounds or patches?

Hmm this seems to have gotton worse in the latest built?. Edit: It was a stray config.toml file in a .codex folder in my repo, deleting it reset me to my default.
