Hi,

I've been getting this error for the last hour, whenever I submit, it counts to 5 seconds

Working (5s • esc to interrupt)

And then attempts reconnecting

Reconnecting... 1/5 (9s • esc to interrupt)
└ Stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

And after 5 retries:

stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

Me too, I just created a case myself, I tried almost everything, full reinstall, older version of codex. Nothing works, claude is still working but I guess it uses a different type of authentication.

Same issue here (VS Code on Windows 10), started today and happens even on very short prompts.

VS Code:

  • Version 1.109.3 (user setup)
  • Commit b6a47e94e326b5c209d118cf0f994d6065585705
  • OS Windows 10 x64 10.0.19045

Error:
Stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

Output logs (excerpt):

  • codex_core::codex: stream disconnected - retrying sampling request (1/5 ... 5/5)
  • Error fetching vscode://codex/local-environments

Tried (no change):

  • Developer: Reload Window
  • Disable/Enable extension
  • Renamed %USERPROFILE%\.codex -> .codex.BAK
  • Model change (gpt-5-3-codex extra high -> gpt-5.2-codex)

VPN/Proxy: none

Thanks for the bug report, but without logs there's not much I can do to diagnose. If you see this again, please use the /feedback slash command to upload your logs and session information, then file a bug report and include the thread ID.
