Can't block Codex from making codebase changes

What version of the IDE extension are you using?

0.4.74

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Plus

Which IDE are you using?

Visual Studio Code

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 25.1.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

There no longer is a button to only chat with Codex and specifically block it from making any changes to the codebase.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Go into the Codex tab in the sidebar.
  2. Press the Shield "Change Permissions" icon
  3. Observe how you can't block filesystem changes (only "Default permissions" or "Full access")

What is the expected behavior?

A third option that allows chatting with Codex with the codebase as context, without it being able to make changes to the codebase.

Additional information

A lot of times, I don't want the AI taking over my codebase entirely, I just want to ask a question with the context of my codebase. It was great for that. Previously, there were buttons like "Chat", "Agent", and a third full root access mode. "Chat" is basically what I have previously used. However, that button is no longer be available, and I would very much like for it to come back.
