Bottom row of controls can get squished, not responsive

What issue are you seeing?

The bottom controls resize nicely when the sidebar is resized, but if any other user-action causes dimension changes in the controls, they do no adapt and instead become squished.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Repro 1: start with "Low" and then click "High"
