Feature Request – VSCode Extension Integrating Codex with ChatGPT Subscription

Hello OpenAI team,

I'm writing to suggest the development of a dedicated Visual Studio Code extension that integrates Codex models (code generation and completion) into the editor, ideally leveraging the existing ChatGPT Plus subscription.

This would be a natural complement to the current ChatGPT code interpreter capabilities and would fill a gap for developers who want real-time, context-aware code assistance directly in their IDE — especially for those who prefer or already use Windsurf.

Key features could include:

Code completions and inline suggestions powered by Codex.

Natural language-to-code translation directly in the editor.

Chat-based code explanation, refactoring suggestions, and debugging tips.

Compatibility with Windsurf and VSCODE to expand local codebase understanding and AI interaction.

Such a tool would greatly enhance productivity, reduce context-switching, and make your ecosystem even more valuable for developers.

Thank you for considering this. A Codex-integrated VSCode extension tied to existing ChatGPT subscriptions would be a game-changer.

Best regards,
Alexander
