The Codex CLI only has native binaries for macOS and Linux (on Windows it only works via WSL2), but Windows runs on over 1.3 billion devices, commands about 75 % of the desktop market with a combined 96 % share among Win 10, Win 11 and Win 7, brings together 26.9 million developers (around 58 % of whom use Windows) and boasts over 669 000 apps in the Microsoft Store – please add an official .exe or .msi installer for Windows and serve the largest user and dev base on the planet.

You can use WSL
WSL is not a good experience, and it takes up a lot of memory.
@dews That is not always an option. What if you want to develop something that specifically uses windows only features?
Quite a large number of enterprise developers are running on windows.
WSL is not always an option for them.
Also, when using WSL, unless you are keeping all your files on the linux side, the performance from WSL reading/writing files on the windows side is a known issue and is very severe.
Please add native windows support.
Perhaps you can follow the model that Claude Code has adopted where they use git bash as a bridge, and this works reasonably well (better than I anticipated).
Thanks for sharing this feedback! The latest version provides Windows builds too. Please try them out! https://github.com/openai/codex/releases
