User markdown not rendering

What issue are you seeing?

None of the user-entered markdown is rendering since the last ~7 weeks. Broke around version 0.4.60. Another user also claimed the exact same issue but marked it as resolved shortly after with no details (see https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/9326 ).

Inbound chat payloads from Codex.exe are formatted correctly; this is only effecting outbound payloads. The only exception are backticked filenames, which are correctly formatted.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Any outbound payload message content I write is affected.

What is the expected behavior?

Messages used to be formatted correctly for several months. I'd like them to be formatted again. I checked if there was a setting added that I could control this but didn't see anything. It just suddenly stopped working after an extension update.
