Auto-archive chats after configurable inactivity

What variant of Codex are you using?

macOS app

What feature would you like to see?

I’d like to request an optional auto-archive feature for Codex desktop chats.

Problem:
Right now I have to archive threads manually. Over time, inactive threads pile up and make it harder to find active work.

Requested behavior:
Please add a setting to automatically archive chats after a user-defined inactivity period.

Suggested settings:

  • Never (default)
  • 7 days
  • 14 days
  • 30 days
  • 90 days
  • Custom number of days

Expected behavior:

  • Inactivity is based on last message timestamp.
  • Auto-archived threads remain searchable.
  • Auto-archived threads can be restored.
  • Optional undo immediately after auto-archive.

Nice-to-have:

  • Don’t auto-archive pinned/starred chats.
  • Optional “only archive resolved chats” behavior.
  • Optional workspace-level override (with global default).

Why this helps:
It keeps the chat list clean automatically, reduces manual housekeeping, and makes active threads easier to find while preserving history.

Acceptance criteria:

  • User can enable/disable auto-archive.
  • User can configure inactivity duration.
  • Eligible chats are archived automatically.
  • Archived chats are searchable and restorable.
  • Existing users keep current manual behavior by default.
