Shift+Enter should continue to allow next line in the same prompt

Shift+Enter used to insert a newline in the prompt composer. Since around March 12, 2026,
it submits the message instead. I now have to press Esc and type to continue multiline
input. Please restore Shift+Enter for newline.

I don't think we've made any changes to how this works recently. It's likely that you have changed a local terminal setting.
Ctrl+J is the keybinding we provide for "allow next line in same prompt". Shift+Enter doesn't generally work across terminals, so it's not a reliable solution.
There are many discussions about Shift+Enter elsewhere in the issue tracker that discuss the challenges with supporting this in terminals.
Perhaps they ran into it inside plan mode. I've accidentally submitted plan mode question-answers by shift-enter'ing many times. It's very confusing for it to not work consistently in places where we can write text freely as part of prompting.
