What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Start a new thread with the Worktree option instead of the Local option
  2. Instruct a model to interact with the filesystem in any way like creating a new file
  3. Observe

#13582 is similar but this has a slightly different manifestation and there is more context

Same/similar problem here:

Windows desktop app 26.313.41514

Repro:

  1. Open normal local Git repo on Windows.
  2. Start new thread and choose “New worktree”.
  3. Codex creates the worktree successfully.
  4. As soon as the model starts working/thinking, the thread shows:

“Current working directory missing / This thread's working directory no longer exists”.

Observed:

  • The worktree folder physically exists.
  • git worktree list shows it.
  • Changes someimtes land in the main worktree and/or don't appear in the new worktree.
  • %USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml contains project entries in mixed path forms, including \\?\C:\....

Possible clue:
Could be like a Windows path identity/normalization issue between normal drive-letter paths and \\?\ raw namespace paths?

For windows users, worktrees development are not functioning. this issue is applied to me currently since the first launch of codex. This situation getting us worse in productivity and ci/cd. Those who see this issue and are on the same situation, give thumbs up to the issue; otherwise we won't get a full functionality with codex.
