I encountered same error ,and I found that codex implementation of typescript doesn't completed support win platforms ( refered to source code). And you could try build from rust source code to use it .
thanks, is there a fix in the future to support the platforms?
It is interesting turn of events. I fixed it myself by going to powershell and run wsl. Refresh local list and than install npm and than npm i -g @openai/codex to install codex. and it works. It took a lot of steps to get it to work.
Use this version: v0.1.2504301751
This one works great with git bash.
Use scoop (package manager) to install the rg command as a codex like it a lot, and you will be good.
I don't know why they made this change to Rust and not to support any more Windows versions without WSL.
The existing behavior where it falls back to the TypeScript CLI should be restored in https://github.com/openai/codex/releases/tag/rust-v0.8.0.
I just installed the old version on Windows 11 on macOS M3 with Parallels, and it worked too.
npm install -g @openai/codex@v0.1.2504301751
