What variant of Codex are you using?

IDE-Extension VS Code

What feature would you like to see?

Feature request: Custom chat/thread titles in VS Code Codex extension

Summary

Please add the ability to manually rename Codex chat/thread titles in the VS Code extension, similar to chat naming on the OpenAI web app.

Problem

In daily usage, many parallel chats are open for different tasks/projects.
Without custom names, it is hard to quickly identify and return to the correct conversation.

Expected behavior

  • User can rename a chat/thread at any time.
  • Rename should be persistent across VS Code restarts.
  • Optional: quick rename action in chat header/context menu.
  • Optional: default auto-title can stay, but user override should always be possible.

Why this matters

  • Better organization for multi-project workflows.
  • Faster context switching.
  • Lower risk of working in the wrong chat/thread.
