What version of the IDE extension are you using?

26.406.31014

What subscription do you have?

Plus

Which IDE are you using?

Visual Studio Code

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

After updating to extension version 26.406.31014, the Codex sidebar in VS Code has a noticeably larger minimum width than before.

In the newer version, the bottom controls and labels take more horizontal space. This makes the sidebar harder to resize and causes horizontal clipping in narrow layouts.

In my screenshots, the same VS Code window layout shows a clear difference between:

  • 26.406.31014 (too wide, horizontal overflow)
  • 26.325.31654 (normal, more compact layout)

This regression reduces usable editor space and makes Codex less practical in the sidebar.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Install/update the OpenAI ChatGPT / Codex extension to 26.406.31014.
  2. Open Codex in the VS Code sidebar.
  3. Resize the sidebar to a narrow width.

Observed result:
The Codex UI keeps a much larger minimum width than before. A horizontal scrollbar appears at the bottom, and some controls/labels are cut off.

For comparison:

  1. Roll back to 26.325.31654
  2. Open Codex in the sidebar again
  3. Resize to a similar width

In the older version, the layout is noticeably more compact and remains usable.

What is the expected behavior?

Codex should remain usable in a narrow VS Code sidebar.

The newer version should not require substantially more width than the older version, and it should not introduce horizontal overflow or clipping for the bottom controls.

Additional information

This appears to be a version-specific UI regression.

Comparison from the same machine and similar VS Code layout:

  • Broken: 26.406.31014
  • Works as expected: 26.325.31654

Visible downside in the newer version:

  • larger minimum sidebar width
  • horizontal scrollbar appears
  • bottom controls are harder to read/use
  • less space remains for the editor
