This is still occuring in newest version,
26.409.20454(1462)I think I am seeing this in
Version 26.417.41555 (1858)as well, submitted an in-app bug report for it with ID:ef24fb68-7bb0-444c-8190-e45ec2745971Happens to me pretty consistently when I start a new conversation in a particular project, I can't change the model on the initial convo but once I start the session I can change again.
That seems to generally be the same for me too.
~It appears the UX was rebuilt in
26.422.20832 (2025), and changing reasoning/model works for me now.~Nevermind, the issue is still present as subsequent folks have found. It just took a bit of time to resurface.
I think it still happens when you have the default model set in a
.codex/config.tomlwhen you are trying to create a new chat in that projectI'm on Version 26.422.30944 (2080) - no update available, still happens.
I’m still seeing this on Codex App Version 26.422.30944 (2080), macOS Darwin 25.3.0 arm64.
In my case, after extended use, the reasoning effort selector can get stuck visually. For example, if it shows High and I select Medium, the dropdown closes but the selector still shows High.
I checked
~/.codex/config.tomlwhile this was happening, and the value there does update correctly when I change it in the app. So the setting is being changed, but the app still displays the old selected value.Closing and restarting the Codex app fixes it temporarily.
Here is a video showcasing the bug.

I am seeing the same in 26.422.30944 windows 11. The model and effort does seem to change but the GUI does not update. Restarting fixes it temporarily.
I am still seeing this in the latest Codex App build I have installed:
26.422.62136Pro 200Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 armModel selection and reasoning/intelligence selection are still broken in the app on this version. The issue is not just historical to
26.406.31014; it still reproduces after updating to26.422.62136.I searched for newer duplicates before commenting. This issue still appears to be the closest match because it tracks being unable to change both the model and reasoning effort in the Codex App.
+1
Looks like it was acknowledged by the team now that someone with a large following was able to bring some visibility to the issue 👏

+1 / Codex Windows / WSL2 - v26.422.71525
Still being annoyed by this in
Version 26.422.71525 (2210):)This bug seems to happen to me all the time now (Version 26.429.30905 (2345)) - I have two solutions:
It's still occurring in the latest Version 26.429.61741 (2429), restarting can solve the problem for a while. But it's annoying when working on parallel projects.
Seeing the same in Version 26.429.61741 (2429) on Mac. Clicking a different intelligent level is ignored sometimes. Restart the app also seems to help.
Surprising such a simple but annoying issue is lingering around.
