What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.406.31014

What subscription do you have?

Plus

What platform is your computer?

Windows 25H2

What issue are you seeing?

Codex now spawns extremely intrusive icon on windows tray that can not be disabled in any way. This icon, when clicked, will spawn useless prompt box that often gets stuck in Windows and is very hard to dismiss. It stays stuck on desktop, and can not be closed in any way, not even with escape key. Only way to close it is to quit the codex app completely.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Install latest Codex app for Windows
  2. Attempt to remove the useless tray icon that spawns uncloseable popup prompt box

What is the expected behavior?

The tray icon can be disabled in the settings so the user doesn't have to ever come in contact with the buggy popup prompt box and the tray area is not cluttered with useless stuff.

This is just so incredibly bad UX.

The codex no longer quits in close, but instead remains lingering on windows tray and running in the background. But double clicking the tray icon to restore the running instance which was not closed properly does not restore the window, it opens that terrible popup prompt box.

Just let me use codex the same way like any other Windows app.

I absolutely hate the way Quick Composer can only be closed on Mac with ESC key and there's literally no indication in the UI that's how you have to close it.

Well, at least on Mac the Esc key works for you 🥲

Will this be fixed? It makes usage of Codex on windows truly miserable. I've stopped using desktop app and went back to VSCode extension ever since this change dropped.
