What issue are you seeing?

In _some_ threads, parts of the UI are missing, like the Open in Editor button or the Terminal button. The CMD+J shortcut still works to summon the terminal.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

I don't know - I just opened a new folder and there it was, it's different than all others I open in the same way.

What is the expected behavior?

I’m seeing the same missing Terminal UI behavior on macOS in Codex Desktop 26.818.41509 (released Aug 21, 2026). There is no Workspace terminal panel or visible way to open an integrated terminal from the chat. Pressing ⌘J does not open the terminal; it only shows shortcut key labels next to chats. This leaves the terminal unavailable from the UI in my current build.

I’m seeing a similar issue on Windows. In my case, it is specifically the Open directory/project in VS Code button; the Terminal button is still available.

Environment:

  • ChatGPT/Codex desktop app: 26.820.7780
  • VS Code: 1.134.0
  • Remote – SSH: 0.124.0
  • Projects are hosted on a remote VPS and opened in Codex through an SSH connection.

The button previously appeared in the upper-right area of Codex chats and opened the chat’s working directory in VS Code. It is now missing from my chats, including chats associated with saved remote projects.

Individual files can still open in VS Code, and Remote‑SSH itself works. This appears to be a missing UI action rather than an SSH connection problem.

Was the project-level Open in Editor action intentionally removed or moved, or is this a UI regression?
