The app doesn't currently have an auto-update feature. It has a detection mechanism to let you know when a new app is available. You can decide to ignore the blue "Update" button if you'd prefer.
I can ignore the "Update" button but if i restart the app it goes ahead and installs the latest version anyway.
I want to upvote this because I installed the Codex app via Brew and wanted to use it to manage updates.
Updates are actually breaking for ssh connections, because the version requirement of remote codex cli frequently grows. This makes auto update even more annoying...
+1, corporate work mostly use ssh, and you can't update the cli version often.
Many times, codex closed itself and updated when re-opened, which then breaks the ssh connection due to incompatible cli version.
Either disable the app's auto update, or make it backward compatible.
Otherwise you will definitely lose users, this introduces a lot of jittering.
It seems we now get a checkbox of auto update when an update pops up. My version: 26.623.31921
I also notice that whenever Codex Desktop on Mac shows an available update, sandbox networking immediately stops working. If my agent is coding at the time, it can no longer push commits to GitHub or perform other network-dependent actions.
I usually code through mobile remote control, and the agent can work perfectly for hours before suddenly losing network access. Every time this happens, I check and find that a Codex Desktop update is waiting. Once I install the update, networking starts working again. It happens if I'm in from of the app as well, not just remote.
It seems like pending Codex Desktop updates are breaking sandbox networking until the update is installed. Disabling updates is critical otherwise my coding session is effectively dead till I get in front of my computer again.
This is a real problem, ever other desktop app update causes 'No route to host' and there is no way to disable update or preventing update on restart!
