app UI apparently shows unavailable models

What issue are you seeing?

There are models in the dropdown apparently not actually available. As the UI does not expose any level of actual relative usage burn rates, I have to guess, but wanted to bump up for one task from 5.4-mini to GPT5.2-codex which is shown in the UI, but apparently not availalbe.

go ahead and complete changes, push updated functions to test and re-test and summarize per prior instructions.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Use macos codex app. Select each model and try to do work/issue commands. In this case select the Codex-5.2 variant, but there may be others.

What is the expected behavior?

Only actually usable models are shown in the dropdown - preferably in order of token or credit usage ascending.

I can confirm the same problem on my side.

Environment

Codex desktop app version: 26.415.40636 (1799)
Platform: macOS 26.4.1
macOS build: 25E253
Architecture: Apple Silicon (arm64)
Auth mode: ChatGPT account auth
Local auth state file: ~/.codex/auth.json
That file currently shows:
auth_mode: "chatgpt"
chatgpt_plan_type: "plus"
chatgpt_subscription_active_until: "2026-05-13T16:24:17+00:00"

What fails
The app allows selecting models in the model picker, but requests fail immediately after submission with HTTP 400.

Observed failing models:

gpt-5.1-codex-mini
gpt-5.1-codex-max
gpt-5.2-codex

Observed errors:

The 'gpt-5.1-codex-mini' model is not supported when using Codex with a ChatGPT account.
The 'gpt-5.1-codex-max' model is not supported when using Codex with a ChatGPT account.
The 'gpt-5.2-codex' model is not supported when using Codex with a ChatGPT account.

Example response payload:

What I checked locally

~/.codex/auth.json confirms this is a ChatGPT-auth session, not API-key auth.
~/.codex/auth.json confirms the subscription is valid and active until 2026-05-13T16:24:17+00:00.
~/.codex/config.toml was not manually forcing these Codex models.
~/.codex/models_cache.json appears to contain a general model catalog rather than a picker already filtered for the active auth mode.

What I tried
None of this helped:

Logout / login again.
Full local reset of Codex state with backups:

~/.codex/auth.json
~/.codex/models_cache.json
~/.codex/.codex-global-state.json

Restarting the app and re-authenticating from scratch.

Expected behavior:
Models that return model is not supported when using Codex with a ChatGPT account should not be selectable in the desktop app model picker.
The same problem also occurs in the Codex VS Code extension and in Codex CLI
