Codex desktop: Automations sidebar entry disappeared after GPT-5.5 update, language and quick action menu not working

Hi Codex team,

I’m seeing several UI features missing or not working correctly in the Codex desktop app on macOS.

Environment:

  • App: Codex desktop app
  • Platform: macOS
  • Codex app version: 26.422.30944
  • Codex runtime version: 26.423.10653
  • Model shown in the UI: GPT-5.5
  • I’m signed in with my ChatGPT account, not just using API key mode.

Issue:

  1. The left sidebar no longer shows the Automations entry.
  2. Settings shows the language option, but changing the language does not work reliably.
  3. The “Add files and more /” menu does not open or does not expose many of the expected quick actions/features.
  4. Plugins are visible, but Automations is not shown in the left sidebar.

Important context:
When I first installed Codex on this new Mac about a week ago, Automations was not visible. A few days later it appeared. After updating Codex / GPT-5.5, the Automations entry disappeared again.

I checked locally and the automation capability seems to exist:

  • The local ~/.codex/automations folder exists.
  • The Codex app bundle appears to include Automations UI strings/routes.
  • The automation tool can still be used from chat, but the sidebar UI entry is hidden or unavailable.

Expected behavior:

  • Automations should appear in the left sidebar if the feature is available.
  • Language changes in Settings should apply correctly.
  • The “Add files and more /” menu should open and show the available quick actions.

Actual behavior:

  • Automations is missing from the left sidebar.
  • Language switching does not work.
  • The quick action menu is limited or not opening as expected.

Could you check whether my account is missing a feature flag or whether this is a regression in the latest Codex desktop rollout?

I checked #18456. It looks related because it also involves Codex Desktop state/UI issues after the GPT-5.5 update, including language settings and quick action / command menu problems.

However, my issue also includes the Automations sidebar entry disappearing, which I do not see clearly tracked in #18456. If the maintainers believe this has the same root cause, I’m fine with closing this as a duplicate, but I wanted to keep this detail visible.

Update: I updated / reinstalled Codex Desktop, but the issue still persists.

Current behavior:

  • The Automations entry is still missing from the left sidebar.
  • The language/localization issue is still not fully fixed.
  • The quick action / add-files menu still does not expose the expected functionality.

So this does not appear to be fixed by the latest update or reinstall on my machine.

I’m seeing a very similar issue, but it affects both Automations and Codex Mobile.

Environment:

  • Codex Desktop macOS: 26.513.31313 build 2867
  • Also reproduces on Windows with the latest Codex Desktop
  • Signed in with my ChatGPT account

What I see:

  • Automations does not appear in the left sidebar.
  • Codex Mobile also does not appear in the left sidebar.
  • Creating an automation works, and I can open the automation panel directly by automation id.
  • The automation.toml file exists and is valid UTF-8 without BOM.
  • The Codex app bundle contains the /codex-mobile route and Codex Mobile setup code, but the sidebar nav item is hidden.

Important comparison:

  • Another account on Codex Desktop shows both “Automations” and “Codex mobile” in the sidebar.
  • My account does not show either entry on both macOS and Windows.

This looks like an account/org-level feature flag or rollout cohort issue rather than a local cache, TOML/BOM, or platform-specific issue.

Hi, I am having the same issue on Codex Macos, updated to the latest version (as of 24/05/2026), but the issue still persists: no automations tab on the side menu.

Also, no Appshots, no enable available Computer Use, no remote control option available.

Restart/Reinstall/logout-login again does not help.
