Same, I spent an hour trying to figure out if I'm running the wrong executable. Should I be running typescript instead of rust? Rust instead of typescript? This can't be the way Codex CLI really is, can it? Tried downloading executable only from the release tag... horrible interface. Just let us OAuth with opencode or cursor cli or anything else if this is the way it's going to be.
@ben-vargas You should be running the Rust version. As of https://github.com/openai/codex/releases/tag/rust-v0.20.0, the TypeScript version is no more (though it was only available on Windows for the last month or two).
As for the wrapping issues, I'll defer to @easong-openai. There current logic is supposed to break at 80 cols, though there is work in flight to switch to Markdown and change the wrapping behavior: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/2029.
@bolinfest - Thanks for confirming, that's the conclusion I came to as well... I'm on the right one, it was just underwhelming/surprising coming from other things, but I know you all know that. I know its WIP and early on in the Rust conversion. On the bright side, it performs quite well despite the lack of looks.
Is this on the roadmap at all? I'm not sure if it's even allowed by OpenAI. I would love to upgrade to Pro since I'm not able to verify my account and properly use the credits via the API, but I also want to "openness" of being able to use other CLIs, especially sst/opencode, and not be stuck with Codex.
This should not be an issue on that latest versions. We are now fully migrated to codex-rs. Marking as resolved.
