What variant of Codex are you using?

CLI, IDE Extension

What feature would you like to see?

An agent creator for building custom agents based on the current project. It could work similarly to the skill creator.

Additional information

  • Can be called with $agent-creator
  • Asks relevant questions to create the custom agent
  • User can choose to create either a global or project-scoped agent

It doesn't have the same goal. Also, the docs already explain very well about agents config.

+1 for a native agent creator.

The main value for me is not a specific file format or UI shape, but having a first-class workflow that reliably creates valid custom agents instead of making users reverse-engineer the right .codex/agents/*.toml structure or accidentally creating skills instead.

A good MVP could be very small:

  • ask whether the agent should be global or project-scoped
  • ask for name, description, and developer instructions
  • write the correct agent file
  • validate it immediately
  • show how to invoke it from Codex

This would make custom agents discoverable and much less error-prone, especially for teams that want repeatable role-based workflows.
