Branch detail panel makes it impossible to use scrollbar

same on mac version 26.429.20946 (2312)

I can reproduce a more severe version of this on macOS.

Environment:

• Codex App: 26.429.30905 (2345)
• Codex CLI: 0.125.0
• Platform: macOS / Darwin 25.4.0 / arm64

Observed behavior:

• The branch details panel appears when attempting to interact with the scrollbar area.
• While the panel is visible, the main thread cannot be scrolled normally.
• Attempting to scroll again causes the panel to reappear, so the user gets stuck in a loop where the conversation is effectively not scrollable.

Expected behavior:

• The branch details panel should not open as a side effect of trying to scroll the thread.
• The panel should not capture or block scroll input for the main conversation.

Impact:

• This blocks basic navigation in longer Codex threads.
• It is especially painful during active coding sessions because the user cannot reliably review earlier context or continue from prior messages.

I'm experiencing the same issue on version 26.429.30905 on Windows 11. When hovering over the scroll bar on the right side of the chat a "Branch details" pop-over appears and blocks selection and use of the scroll bar.

Even after recent update, it's still broken. This is so embarrassing. On the one hand, we get random useless BS like pets, on the other hand, a $850 billion company can't make working scrollbar.

I am seeing the same issue on Codex Desktop for Windows.

When the mouse approaches the right-side scrollbar, the Branch Details hover panel opens and overlaps the exact area needed to drag the scrollbar/context control. This makes direct scrollbar dragging unreliable or impossible in long conversations.

Please add a user setting to disable this hover panel entirely, or at minimum do not trigger it when the pointer is in the scrollbar gutter / right-edge scroll area. Unpinning the panel is not enough because the hover trigger still interferes with normal scrolling.

I like everything about the Codex app, but this bug alone significantly impacts the UX negatively. This should be fixed ASAP.

It pops up in the VS Code extension as well, but it puts it to the right of the viewing area, making horizontal scrollbars appear.

Not really, it's still quite janky. You can focus on the scrollbar when it's below the pane, but if you click on the scroll area within the same y-coordinate as the pane, it's unresponsive. If you try to grab the scrollbar and scroll all the way to the top of the conversation, it will stop scrolling when you enter the pane area. So the behavior is certainly still broken.

There is still a problem. I use the Codex app scaled down to a very small size. In this case, the mouse cannot access the scrollbar within the height range of the branch information panel. Not everyone uses the Codex app in full screen or half screen size.

This is really annoying
when it happens, i pop open preview panel and scroll because somehow when the left side preview window is open, the hover thing doesn't show up. Please don't vibe code your proprietary app!

It's hard to put into words just how much I hate this panel. I don't think I ever hated using Electron based app as much as I hate Codex. It's almost as if the UX was bad on purpose.

So they have sort of fixed it, but for the life of me, I don't understand why they are showing that "pop over" when you hover over the scrollbar. Shouldn't that behaviour happen when the user intentionally clicks a button? Why is it happening when you hover over the scrollbar? It doesn't make sense.
