When I start a conversation thread, GPU usage goes through the roof and battery consumption makes it basically unusable off of charge
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Use the codex app and start a conversation. To feel the pain use it on an unplugged laptop.

I am experiencing the same issue. I left my laptop under the blanket and went to Walmart. After I came back, it was about to explode. After investigating, I found that Codex was using "significant energy" even though it was not even open.
same experience, codex drains my battery in 1 hour
The CPU & GPU usage for Codex is unacceptably high and needs to be addressed. It burns a fully charged Macbook Pro battery within 1-2 hours and causes aggressive overheating. This issue has persisted for months now and needs a prioritized fix.
