Rebalance ChatGPT and Codex usage limits: more Codex tokens, fewer but higher-intelligence ChatGPT messages
What variant of Codex are you using?
App / Web / CLI
What feature would you like to see?
I would like to see the usage allocation between ChatGPT and Codex rebalanced.
Right now, ChatGPT usage is very generous, but for many developer workflows it is hard to fully use that allowance. Codex usage, on the other hand, is much easier to exhaust because it directly powers real coding work: debugging, refactoring, reviewing code, running tasks, and making project-level changes.
For users who mainly use ChatGPT for software development, it would be more useful to have:
More Codex usage allowance
Less total ChatGPT usage, if necessary
Higher-quality ChatGPT reasoning when used for coding, ideally closer to Codex xhigh-level intelligence
A plan or add-on option focused on developer-heavy Codex usage
The current balance feels mismatched for serious coding workflows. Many users would probably prefer fewer general ChatGPT messages if that meant more Codex capacity and stronger reasoning for development tasks.
Additional information
This is not just about wanting “more usage” in general. It is about better matching usage limits to how coding users actually work.
For developers, Codex usage is often the bottleneck, not ChatGPT usage. A developer-focused allocation model would make the product much more useful.
If others feel the same way, please consider giving this issue a 👍 so the Codex team can see there is demand for this kind of usage rebalancing.
