After this/sucessful compaction, the agent kept running as normal, and still is. However, the typical indicator for "Working" + the time you see above the text input area is no longer there (e.g. • Working (2s • esc to interrupt)). The absence of this causes the TUI to behave weirdly, it looks as though messages more-so "pop in" suddenly with no reasoning/activity, but really the core issue is just I think the lack of the Working + Time indicator & flow as normal. Otherwise everything works and the model is still pursuing the goal, working, tool calling, etc, as normal.

Note: background terminal indicator (e.g. 1 background terminal running · /ps to view · /stop to close) still shows as normal when applicable. But whether the background terminal indicator is present or not, the Working indicator is still gone.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

I had a long-running goal, reached my 5hr usage window while it was running, & then Codex wanted to compact while I was 0% on 5hr usage window. It kept repeatedly tried to compact but would fail & print the error messsage:

I'm not sure if the chat would've continued in precisely this manner if my reset time was really far away & it kept spamming/trying to compact, but in my case I was nearing my reset time and after some decent amount of spam eventually my 5hr usage reset when it reached 9:35AM, compaction subsequently worked on next retry without any human intervention or inputs at all, and the bug appeared.

What is the expected behavior?

You see an animated "Working"/etc area of the TUI as the model does stuff as usual, i.e. something like • Working (2s • esc to interrupt).
