Add Talk Mode / Discussion Mode to Codex

What variant of Codex are you using?

App,CLI

What feature would you like to see?

I’d love to see a Talk Mode in Codex.

Right now, Plan Mode is helpful, but it feels limited. It is mostly useful when I already have a specific feature or task in mind and want Codex to plan how to implement it.

But sometimes I’m not at that stage yet. I want to talk through the whole project first — clarify the product direction, discuss feature scope, compare different options, identify risks, and figure out what should be built before turning it into a concrete plan.

So it’s not just that Codex jumps into implementation too quickly. The bigger issue is that there isn’t a dedicated space for open-ended project discussion before planning.

A workflow like this would feel much more natural:

Talk Mode → Plan Mode → Code

Talk Mode should not edit files or run commands by default. It should help the user and Codex explore ideas, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and reach a clearer direction before creating an implementation plan.
