This appears to be the same issue as #21724.

I’m also on Windows and cannot find the Chrome plugin in the Plugins menu. The “Codex for Chrome” feature appears in What’s New, but the plugin is not available to add.

I have downloaded my version 26.506.31421 of the Codex app from the Windows Store which was updated today, on May 9th.

Still not working on Windows after updating to Codex version 26.506.3741.0.

Plugins still shows “No plugins found,” so Chrome / Browser Use / Computer Use are missing.

I already tried sign out/in and Windows app Repair/Reset.

This feels unfair as a ChatGPT Plus user, because other users appear to have these features while my Windows app has no plugins at all.

Please fix this as soon as possible, or confirm whether affected Windows accounts can be enabled.

Hellow everfyone in order to fix the chrome plugin please use a vpn and make it USA ~ then
on chromewebstore write codex will pop up - install it , restart codex and will be visible

+1 The Codex Chrome extension v1.1.4 remains disconnected on my Surface Pro 11. It says I need to use the Chrome plugin in Codex, but the Chrome plugin does not appear anywhere in the Codex desktop app, even after updating the app and enabling browser usage in settings.

Update: the Chrome plugin appeared and worked for me this morning, but when I opened Codex again around 3 PM, it was unavailable again.

Chrome is now greyed out and shows “Unavailable in this context.”

So the issue is not fully resolved yet.

Observed behavior

Chrome / Browser / Computer Use are not available in Codex Desktop.

• Chrome extension: not detected
• No candidate manifest containing Codex, OpenAI, ChatGPT, Browser, or browser-use was found.
• Chrome plugin: not shown in the current Codex tools/plugins list.
• Browser plugin: not shown in the current Codex tools/plugins list.
• tool_search does not show any dedicated Browser / browser-use operation tool.
• @Chrome: unavailable; there is no callable tool equivalent to @Chrome.
• @Browser: unavailable; there is no callable tool equivalent to @Browser.
• Codex Settings > Browser shows: アプリ内ブラウザ プラグインは利用できません / in-app browser plugin is unavailable.
• Codex Settings > Computer Use shows: Computer Use プラグインを利用できません / Computer Use plugin is unavailable.
• Searching Plugins for Chrome returns no plugin.
• Searching Plugins for Browser only shows Build Web Apps, which appears to be a web app-building skill, not browser automation.

Actual impact

Because @Chrome, @Browser, and Computer Use are unavailable, Codex cannot operate logged-in Chrome sessions for sites that require an authenticated real-browser session. For example, REINS / ATBB-like real estate systems cannot be operated from Codex in this state.

Expected behavior

If Chrome / Browser / Computer Use are not available on this platform/account/region, the UI should clearly explain that they are gated or unsupported. If they are supposed to be available, Chrome / Browser should appear in the plugin list and expose usable @Chrome / @Browser routes after setup.

Repair and reset were tried from Windows App settings, but the plugin entries still did not appear.

Here’s a concise issue report you can send to OpenAI/Codex support:

Codex Desktop on Windows: Chrome plugin connected in Chrome, but not exposed inside Codex

Environment:
- OS: Windows
- Codex Desktop
- Chrome extension installed and showing as connected to Codex
- Local timezone/user environment: Windows user profile path under C:\Users\lcg29

What happened:
1. Initially, the Codex Desktop plugin search page was blank.
2. Network checks showed openai.com/github.com/api.github.com were reachable over HTTPS, routed through Mihomo/TUN, so basic connectivity was not the blocker.
3. Codex config only had the local openai-primary-runtime marketplace registered.
4. I manually registered the downloaded openai-curated marketplace from:
   C:\Users\lcg29\.codex\.tmp\plugins
   After restarting Codex, the plugin page started showing recommendations.
5. However, searching for “Control Chrome with Codex” still returned no results.
6. Local inspection showed a bundled Chrome native host binary existed at:
   C:\Users\lcg29\.codex\plugins\cache\openai-bundled\chrome\0.1.7\extension-host\windows\x64\extension-host.exe
7. The native messaging host config existed at:
   C:\Users\lcg29\AppData\Local\OpenAI\extension\com.openai.codexextension.json
   It pointed to:
   C:\Users\lcg29\.codex\plugins\cache\openai-bundled\chrome\latest\extension-host\windows\x64\extension-host.exe
8. But the `latest` directory did not exist, only `0.1.7` existed. I created a junction:
   chrome\latest -> chrome\0.1.7
9. Chrome then showed the extension as connected to Codex.
10. I also enabled:
   [plugins."chrome@openai-bundled"]
   enabled = true
11. Because no `openai-bundled` marketplace/manifest for Chrome was visible locally, I tried creating a local placeholder marketplace entry for `chrome@openai-bundled`. After restarting, Codex could recognize an @Chrome mention in chat, but the agent still did not receive any Chrome/browser tool.

Current problem:
- Chrome extension says it is connected to Codex.
- Codex Desktop can recognize `@Chrome` as a plugin mention.
- But the actual Chrome tool is not injected into the Codex conversation.
- When asking “@Chrome read my current tab”, Codex has no Chrome tool available.
- The assistant can only read the Chrome window title via Windows process/window APIs, not via the official Chrome plugin.

Expected behavior:
- After installing/connecting the Chrome extension and starting a new Codex thread, Codex should expose the Chrome/browser tool to the agent.
- The agent should be able to read or interact with the current Chrome tab when the user invokes @Chrome.

Possible diagnosis:
This looks similar to the known Windows issue where the Chrome plugin/native host is partially installed and connected, but `chrome@openai-bundled` is not properly registered/exposed to Codex Desktop sessions. The extension connection works, but the actual Chrome tool is not available to the agent runtime.
