Workaround until it is fixed:
you can use /mention at the beginning of the command

also, it works, when my keyboard layout is en-US. The "@" symbol on my layout ("de-CH") is located at "ALT GR + 2". In the US layout is "SHIFT + 2". Maybe that's something to look into.

I think that's the problem: https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/5996ee0e5f75e4f27afd76334db78a33a7fec997/codex-rs/tui/src/bottom_pane/textarea.rs#L219

// Insert plain characters (and Shift-modified). Do NOT insert when ALT is held, // because many terminals map Option/Meta combos to ALT+<char> (e.g. ESC f/ESC b) // for word navigation. Those are handled explicitly below.

Using italian keyboard under windows in terminal I can't write €, [, ], @, # as they all need "ATL gr" to be written.

This is a just terminal problem (at least for me). Do you try this in Git Bash by chance?

WinTTY (Git Bash) sends for example Ctrl + Alt + q if I want an @ on a German keyboard.
ConPTY (WSL, PowerShell, Cmd) directly converts into an @ <- the shell does see an "@".

So you can

  • use WSL
  • Start the Git bash inside a ConPTY (for example start a powershell and type "bash")

Still I think this should be supported natively. Claude Code and Gemini run just fine in Git Bash.

I just tested with the newest release of codex and this is not an issue anymore.
