Request for Rich Interactive Plugin Support and Custom UI Components in Codex

What variant of Codex are you using?

26.513.40821

What feature would you like to see?

I would like to suggest improvements to Codex plugin and interaction permissions, especially for advanced creative workflows.

I am a 3D artist, and I have built a custom skill-tree workflow around Codex for content production and asset generation. Currently, I feel the interaction layer inside the Codex chat window is too limited for complex tool integrations.

Right now, image previews through Markdown are supported, but almost all other forms of interactive preview or SDK-driven UI interactions are unavailable. This significantly limits advanced workflows.

What I hope Codex could support in the future:

  1. More permissive plugin/runtime interaction capabilities
  • Allow custom SDK integrations or lightweight plugin execution inside the Codex conversation environment.
  • Enable external tools to send structured interactive responses back into the chat UI.
  1. Custom interactive UI components inside chat

Instead of relying only on typed commands, I hope Codex could support:

  • clickable buttons
  • dropdown selections
  • action chips
  • contextual task controls

For example:

  • Retry
  • Continue
  • Download
  • Rebuild
  • Import into project
  • Open preview
  • Send to pipeline

These actions should ideally be clickable directly from the preview/result area instead of requiring manually typed text commands.

  1. Rich preview support beyond Markdown images

As a 3D artist, many workflows involve:

  • model state previews
  • asset validation
  • SDK callback results
  • prefab status
  • generation pipeline stages
  • scene graph information

I hope Codex could support richer embedded previews or custom-rendered panels for these kinds of outputs.

  1. Better workflow embedding into Codex conversations

I would also love the ability to inject predefined workflow actions directly into the Codex input flow, allowing users to continue complex production pipelines without manually retyping instructions every time.

Overall, I think Codex has huge potential as a creative production platform, especially for game development, 3D art, procedural pipelines, and AI-assisted content creation. More open interaction and plugin capabilities would make it dramatically more powerful for professional workflows.
