Codex App fails with invalid schema for function '_search_content'

What issue are you seeing?

Codex App on macOS has been unusable for about 8 days on my ChatGPT Plus account.

I already submitted in-app feedback with logs.

Error:
invalid_request_error / invalid_function_parameters

Invalid schema for function '_search_content':
schema must have type 'object' and not have 'oneOf'/'anyOf'/'allOf'/'enum'/'not' at the top level.

Already tested:

  • ChatGPT Plus is active
  • fresh new Codex project
  • app fully uninstalled and reinstalled
  • Spreadsheets and Presentations plugins disabled
  • different Codex models tested
  • simple prompts tested
  • issue persists for days

Expected behavior:
Codex should respond normally or create/read files in a fresh project.

Actual behavior:
Every prompt immediately fails with the invalid schema error above.

This does not look like a plan, usage limit, model, plugin, or repository issue. It appears to be a broken Codex tool/schema registration or account rollout state.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex App on macOS.
  2. Create a fresh new project.
  3. Send a simple prompt, for example: "Create a test.txt file with the content: Hallo Codex".
  4. The request immediately fails.
  5. The same happens in existing projects and fresh projects.

In-app feedback was already submitted with logs.

Same on Ubuntu with Codex CLI. Happened after re-login and update. Downgrade did not help. https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/23703

I disconnected all Apps in chatgpt.com → Settings → Connectors/Apps, and it helped.

Ok so I wanted to try and trouble shoot more based on the comment above, regarding the Apps being on or off.

And I found the culprit. It seems to be when its certain Apps (from ChatGPT) that are on. I have only 2 apps connected via ChatGPT (Figma and Insight Timer). When Figma is on or off…Codex works fine.

BUT… as soon as I turned on Insight Timer…I got that same Codex fail error issue.

Again I only have these 2 apps, so I cant say if it is just Insight Time that causes it, but I assume its not just THAT app. but something about that app or with it.

So as the comment above said, disconnecting or turning off Apps helps, but it seems to be only certain apps that cause the issue since the Figma one can be on and I get no issues at all.

Ohhhh ok. Huh, so maybe it is actually this app specifically that messes up Codex somehow. Interesting.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue 🙏

We identified the root cause and have deployed a fix. The issue was caused by an invalid tool schema in the Insight Timer App integration, which could cause Codex to fail with errors related to search_content.

Thanks to everyone who shared logs, troubleshooting steps, and findings in this thread. The reports helped us quickly identify and resolve the issue.

If you were affected by this issue, please reconnect the Insight Timer app:

ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Insight Timer → Disconnect → Connect

If you're still experiencing the issue after reconnecting, please let us know your Codex version, platform, and the latest error message.

quick note.. no issues with latest version so far.. however it started manifesting again today. New threads work fine, existing threads hit the issue.

Currently only using Figma app and MCPs
