Mac-to-Mac remote control appears in Control other devices but cannot be used

Summary

Mac-to-Mac remote control in the Codex App appears to be discoverable but not usable.

A host Mac can be connected from Codex Mobile on a phone, and the same host Mac also appears in Settings > Connections > Control other devices on another Mac. However, from the controlling Mac, there is no clear or working path to open the host Mac's projects or threads and start controlling that host.

Environment / setup

  • Two Macs running Codex App
  • Same ChatGPT account on both Macs
  • Same workspace on both Macs
  • Host Mac has Allow other devices to connect enabled
  • Controlling Mac shows the host Mac under Settings > Connections > Control other devices
  • Codex Mobile on a phone can connect to the same host Mac successfully
  • Both Codex Apps were restarted and updated to the latest available build before testing

What works

  1. The host Mac is visible from Codex Mobile.
  2. Codex Mobile can connect to the host Mac.
  3. The host Mac is also visible from another Mac under Settings > Connections > Control other devices.
  4. The host Mac appears to be online/discoverable.

What does not work

From the controlling Mac:

  1. Open Codex App.
  2. Go to Settings > Connections > Control other devices.
  3. The host Mac is displayed.
  4. Select or try to use the host Mac.

Observed behavior:

  • The host appears in the UI, but remote control does not actually become usable.
  • There is no clear UI flow that opens the host Mac's project list or thread list.
  • The user cannot start or continue work on the host Mac from the controlling Mac.
  • Reconnecting, restarting, toggling settings, and signing out/in do not fix the issue.

Expected behavior

When a host Mac appears under Control other devices, selecting it should clearly allow the controlling Mac to open that host's projects and threads, then start or continue work remotely.

The expected flow would be something like:

  1. Select host Mac under Control other devices.
  2. See the host Mac's projects and existing threads.
  3. Start or continue a Codex task using the host Mac's local files, shell, credentials, and settings.

Troubleshooting already attempted

  • Confirmed same ChatGPT account on both Macs.
  • Confirmed same workspace on both Macs.
  • Confirmed Allow other devices to connect is enabled on the host Mac.
  • Confirmed the host Mac appears under Control other devices on the controlling Mac.
  • Confirmed Codex Mobile can connect to the same host Mac.
  • Restarted Codex App on both Macs.
  • Restarted both Macs.
  • Toggled connection settings off and on.
  • Signed out and signed back in.
  • Removed/re-added the connection.
  • Checked for obvious UI paths in Projects / New thread / Connections.

Additional issue: feedback slash command unavailable

The documentation says that typing / in the Codex App message composer should show a feedback option. In this environment, no feedback menu appears when typing / in the Codex App message composer.

This was tried in the normal message composer, not in Settings or a terminal field, with a half-width / character.

Impact

Codex Mobile remote access works, but Mac-to-Mac remote control is not usable even though the host appears in Control other devices.

This makes the feature feel partially implemented or broken: discovery works, but the actual control/start-work UI path is missing or failing.

A clearer and functional UI for selecting a remote Mac and opening its projects/threads would make this feature much easier to use.
