Codex desktop Review feature not working except for the Last Turn setting

All of unstaged, staged, commit and branch are stuck forever loading. Additionally, Commit dropdown is forever stuck at this:

The Refresh option is permanently disabled:

This makes Codex desktop useless for reviewing the agent's work on any other basis than turn by turn, crucially, it means I have to hop off Codex to do a final check of the Git index before I open a PR.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
It happens to me 100 % of the time. No special steps, happens on the happy path where it should work.

This bot is not that smart, the linked issue itself has been closed as a duplicate. It should have linked me to the issue it is duplicating: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/23367. That one is closed though and my problem still reproduces, and it is not related to the Codex Desktop app (it is related to the Codex CLI which technically may be the same root cause, but since Codex Desktop is not open source, only a maintainer could know that, so that find is useless to me as a reporter).
I've found this happens when I use a Codex project targeting a directory that isn't a git repository. For example, I store all my locally cloned repositories at
~/Users/me/repos. If I use that as my codex project I can reproduce the bug. But if I use the specific repo clone directory as the project, say~/Users/me/repos/foo, the diff panel works as expected@hesselapplications seems plausible. My Codex project is a plain directory with several repository directories within it.
