Windows 11 Codex app: Side chat suddenly shows “Error creating task: no rollout found for thread id”

Description

I am using the Codex desktop app on Windows 11. While I was actively chatting in a side chat / side conversation, the app suddenly displayed an error toast:

Error creating task
no rollout found for thread id 019e798e-10e4-71d2-a2b2-cfef35bda508

This happened while the side chat was already open and in use, not while manually creating a new thread.

Screenshot

I have a screenshot of the toast, but the GitHub issue API integration used here cannot upload binary image attachments directly. The screenshot shows the same red toast with the error text above.

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11
  • App: Codex desktop app
  • Area: Side chat / side conversation

Actual Behavior

A red error toast appeared saying that no rollout was found for the current thread id.

Expected Behavior

The side chat should continue normally, or if a background task cannot be created, the app should recover gracefully and provide a user-actionable error message.

Notes

I am not sure yet whether this is consistently reproducible. It occurred during an active side chat session.
