Environment:

  • Windows 11
  • Official OpenAI Codex Desktop
  • Latest version from official source

Issue:

Codex Desktop became unusable after previously working.

Observed errors include:

1.
session XXXXX is archived
Run codex unarchive XXXXX to unarchive it first

2.
Unable to find Electron app

3.
Cannot find module ...

4.
Error submitting message

What I already tried:

  • Reinstalled Windows
  • Reinstalled Codex Desktop
  • Deleted all Codex configuration directories
  • Switched to a different OpenAI account
  • Created a new Windows user account with an English username
  • Removed old sessions and caches

Result:

The issue persists across accounts and clean installations.

Expected behavior:

Codex Desktop should launch normally and allow creation of new sessions.

Actual behavior:

The application either fails to launch or becomes stuck with archived session errorsCodex_Error_Screenshots.zip
