Codex phone verification bug: unable to send verification code to any phone number
Hi OpenAI team,
I cannot complete Codex login because the phone verification page always fails.
Flow: Codex login → auth.openai.com/add-phone
Country: Indonesia
Error: “Unable to send a verification code to this phone number. Please try again later or use a different number.”
I tried multiple valid Indonesian mobile numbers, mobile data, incognito mode, clearing cookies/cache, no VPN, no Private DNS, and no adblock, but the same error still appears.
ChatGPT login works normally, but Codex is blocked at phone verification.
This looks like a Codex/Auth phone verification bug or SMS routing issue for Indonesia. Please check my account/auth flow.

You should change to other "network provider" first, codex/openai seems only support some kind of provider.
Same issue here, and the crazy thing is that inside chatgpt you can use the same number for auth, but when you try using it for codex it either says it has been used on multiple accounts or just doesnt work

I already have my phone connected and received the otp via WhatsApp but it still asks me to add a new phone number even after I use the otp code. This is a bug.

ChatGPT web login works fine, but Codex always requires SMS verification and no SMS is ever received.
Would appreciate a fallback to passkey, authenticator app, or email verification.

Can anyone solve this? The number that comes up for verification is not the one I used when registering.
And here´s another crazy thing, I have another chatgpt account, free tier, and it works with codex, and the plus one doesnt (the free one doesnt have my phone number on it nor I ever used on this accoun)
For now since OpenAI insists on this thing, I may have found a solution for those like me that are getting the "you phone number has been used the max number of acounts (or something like that)
Under California Law, GDPR and other laws, you have the right to be forgotten and to demand that all your data is deleted, So I´ve made a request on the OpenAI privacy website to delete my number from all openai systems. Lets see what happens.

Exactly what happened to me. In the previous incarnation, I even deleted my openAi account, leaving chatGPT the same. The new OpenAI account doesn't even have a place to insert the phone number, but it's still requiring a number I don't have access. Having "Advanced account security enabled" that bypass phone number requirements in chatGPT does nothing to login in codex...
