What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.601.20914

What subscription do you have?

PRO 5x

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

Codex returned the following error while I was working on a Microsoft Word document formatting/editing task:

"the model gpt-image-2 does not exist"

I did not explicitly request image generation. The task was related to normal text/document editing, so the error appears unexpected and may indicate that Codex is incorrectly selecting or calling an unavailable image model internally.

As a result, Codex failed to complete the requested task.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the Codex desktop app.
  2. Start or continue a conversation.
  3. Ask Codex to perform a normal text/document editing task, such as formatting or editing a Microsoft Word document.
  4. Submit the request.
  5. Codex unexpectedly returns the error:

"the model gpt-image-2 does not exist"

I did not request image generation.

What is the expected behavior?

Codex should complete the requested text/document editing task normally, without attempting to call an unavailable image generation model and without returning the error:

"the model gpt-image-2 does not exist"

Additional information

Subscription: Pro 5x

Platform:
Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

The error occurred while I was working on a Microsoft Word document formatting/editing task. I did not explicitly request image generation.

The issue appears to be related to Codex internally selecting or calling the unavailable model "gpt-image-2" during a normal document/text editing workflow.
