What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.601.21317 • Released 3 Jun 2026

What subscription do you have?

Plus

What platform is your computer?

Windows 11 x64 - Microsoft Windows version 10.0.26200.8524

What issue are you seeing?

Codex app project chat history disappears from the project after reopening the app.

This happened two days in a row for the same local project.

Project: Comm-Project
Mode: Work locally
Branch: main

The local project and Git repository still exist and the branch is still main, but the Codex chat history is no longer visible in the app.

What I verified:

  • Under the Comm-Project project, the sidebar shows "No chats".
  • Searching for previous chat titles such as "Complete Task 004" returns no matches.
  • Settings > Archived chats shows "No archived chats".
  • The previous worktree/project still exists locally.
  • Git history is intact.

Feedback was already submitted from inside Codex.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex App.
  2. Work on a local project named Comm-Project.
  3. Use Codex chat inside that project for implementation work.
  4. Close the Codex app.
  5. Reopen the Codex app the next day.
  6. Open the same Comm-Project project.
  7. The project sidebar shows "No chats".
  8. Search for previous chat titles such as "Complete Task 004".
  9. Search returns no matches.
  10. Go to Settings > Archived chats.
  11. Archived chats shows "No archived chats".

This happened twice on two consecutive days.

What is the expected behavior?

Codex project chat history should persist after closing and reopening the app.

When I reopen the same local project, the previous project chats should still be visible under the project, searchable, or at least recoverable from Archived chats if they were archived.

Project chat history should not disappear from the project sidebar, Search, and Archived chats at the same time.

Additional information

This is blocking reliable multi-day project work.

I am using Codex for a local project over multiple days. Losing the chat history removes important implementation context, instructions, and previous decisions.

The local repository itself is not lost. Git commits still exist. The problem is specifically with Codex project chat history visibility/persistence inside the Codex app UI.
