status checking is error
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.601.21317
What subscription do you have?
plus
What platform is your computer?
Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm
What issue are you seeing?
I’m seeing a billing / usage status issue in Codex.
In the Codex usage or status view, my account shows:
Quota: Unavailable
I am reporting this because the UI does not make it clear whether this means:
- my quota has been exhausted,
- my account is not eligible for quota display or top-ups,
- there is a workspace / permissions issue,
- or the status check is failing unexpectedly.
What I expected
I expected Codex to show one of the following clearly:
- my remaining quota / usage status,
- that I have reached my limit,
- that my current plan does not support quota display or purchases,
- or a more specific error message explaining why quota information is unavailable.
What actually happened
Instead of a specific explanation, the interface only shows:
Quota: Unavailable
Because of this, I cannot tell:
- whether I can continue using Codex,
- whether my account still has available usage,
- whether I need to upgrade my plan,
- or whether this is a product bug.
Reproduction steps
- Log in to my OpenAI / Codex account.
- Open the Codex usage / status page.
- View the quota section.
- The status displays
Quota: Unavailable.
Frequency
This issue is reproducible every time I check the quota status.
Impact
This blocks me from understanding whether my account still has usable Codex capacity. It also makes it difficult to know whether the problem is related to billing, plan eligibility, workspace permissions, or a UI/backend error.
Account context
- Plan: [Free / Go / Plus / Pro / Business / Enterprise]
- Workspace type: [Personal / Business workspace / Enterprise workspace]
- Region: [your region]
- Platform: [Codex web / desktop app / ChatGPT]
- Logged-in account type: [personal account / managed organization account]
Environment
- OS: [macOS / Windows / Linux]
- Browser or app version: [Chrome version / desktop app version]
- Date observed: [YYYY-MM-DD]
- Time observed: [HH:MM and timezone]
Additional notes
If Quota: Unavailable is expected behavior for certain plans or workspaces, the product should explicitly say so in the UI. Right now the message is too ambiguous and looks like an error.
A clearer message such as one of the following would help:
- “You have reached your quota.”
- “Quota information is not available for your current plan.”
- “Quota is managed by your workspace administrator.”
- “We were unable to load quota information. Please try again later.”
Please let me know whether this is expected behavior or a bug.
