Codex Desktop: Computer Use / "Any application" option missing on macOS Intel

macOS 13.7.8 Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz

What issue are you seeing?

In Codex Desktop, the Computer Use / "Any application" option is missing. I only see browser-related options such as Browser and Chrome.

codex plugin list shows Browser and Chrome plugins installed and enabled, but there is no computer-use, desktop-control, or arbitrary-application-control plugin available.

Codex Desktop version: 26.601.21317
Codex CLI version: 0.136.0-alpha.2

I would like to know whether Computer Use / arbitrary desktop application control is gated by account, rollout channel, macOS version, Intel CPU architecture, model provider, or Codex Desktop version, and how to enable it if it should be available.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex Desktop on macOS.
  2. Start a new local Codex thread.
  3. Open the tools / computer control options in the composer.
  4. Look for the Computer Use / "Any application" option.
  5. Run codex plugin list in a terminal to verify installed and available plugins.

Expected result:
The Computer Use / "Any application" option should be visible or installable if the feature is supported.

Actual result:
Only Browser and Chrome-related options are visible. codex plugin list shows browser@openai-bundled and chrome@openai-bundled installed and enabled, but no computer-use, desktop-control, or arbitrary-application-control plugin is listed.

I can confirm the same issue on another Intel Mac.

Environment:

  • Codex Desktop: 26.601.21317 (3511)
  • Bundled Codex CLI: 0.136.0-alpha.2
  • macOS: 15.7.7
  • Architecture: x86_64 / Intel
  • Auth mode: API key

What I verified locally:

  • /Applications/Codex.app/Contents/MacOS/Codex is an x86_64 binary.
  • /Applications/Codex.app/Contents/Resources/plugins/openai-bundled/plugins/ contains browser, chrome, latex, and sites.
  • There is no computer-use directory in the installed app bundle.
  • ~/.codex/plugins/cache/openai-bundled/ contains browser and chrome, but no computer-use.
  • The generated bundled marketplace at ~/.codex/.tmp/bundled-marketplaces/openai-bundled/.agents/plugins/marketplace.json only exposes latex in my current session.
  • Adding features.computer_use = true and enabling [plugins."computer-use@openai-bundled"] in ~/.codex/config.toml does not make the plugin appear after restart.
  • I downloaded and mounted the current official Intel DMG from Codex-latest-x64.dmg; it is the same app version, and the mounted app bundle also does not contain computer-use.

This looks like the current Intel/x64 distribution is missing the Computer Use bundled plugin/helper, rather than a local config or permissions issue.
