Codex desktop app bug: running an Environment action navigates away from active chat

Open 💬 1 comment Opened Jun 7, 2026 by the1337moderator

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.602.40724

What subscription do you have?

Pro 5x

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

When I run an action from the Environment card’s actions menu, the action starts successfully in the original chat/worktree and the terminal keeps running there. But the UI immediately navigates me back to the project New Chat screen.

If I manually click back into the original chat, I can see the terminal running the command.

This happens when using actions from:
Environment card → ... → actions

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Feedback ID: 019ea0a0-0125-7053-94ea-9b0fefc1489b

What is the expected behavior?

after launching an action, Codex should stay focused on the chat/worktree where the action is running, or navigate to that running action thread, not New Chat.

Clicking any any of the tools listed in that boxed menu will go to this screen:
