Add audio notification sound when Codex task completes (VS Code Extension + Codex Desktop)

What variant of Codex are you using?

What feature would you like to see?

I would like to add an audio alert sound when Codex finishes its tasks. I usually do other work while waiting for tasks to complete. Without a sound notification, I can't notice immediately when Codex is done. A completion chime will help me get timely reminders and avoid missing finished tasks.

+1. For my own workflow, completion sound is only one state; the states I need to notice are:

still running
finished / waiting for input
stuck / interrupted

I ended up open-sourcing a small macOS companion for this while waiting for native support: Agent Island shows Claude/Codex state in the MacBook notch and can beep on stuck/waiting states. It also supports auto-resume for a selected long run when it can continue.

Native Codex notifications would still be valuable, especially for users without a notched MacBook.

Built exactly this. It hooks into Codex CLI and fires a sound + desktop toast when a task finishes, plus optional phone push via ntfy if you want alerts on your phone too.
