What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

v26.608.12217 is unusable on WIndows - Not Responding.

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

The app opens slowlly. When I go to a project to begin work, I enter a prompt the app then becomes unresponsive. I get the windows message that the "Application is Not Responding". I choose to wait for the application. When it is finally done with that one prompt, I can then do another action prompt of open something else up or change settings and again the app becomes nonresponsive. The app is absolutely unusable. I am on some tight deadlines, and I have come to rely on Codex. Please offer a workaround while you address the root cause. If you need more data, just ask.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Send a prompt the application becomes nonresponsive.

What is the expected behavior?

It just works - when it is running a task the UI should be responsive and allow other activity in that project or any other,

Additional information

I am running 5.5 Extra High - normal speed

Does your project use Git? If so, do you still experience performance issues if you open a copy of the project without the .git folder in it?

Maybe OpenAi should use GPT-5.5 to resolve this issue ;) ? or maybe windows users are not their target ;) ? So far, all they can do is find duplicate tickets instead of fixing the issues.

Since last night I've been getting the same error:

Windows 11 - Version 10.0.26200 Build 26200

What I've done:

Checked Extension Host logs, nothing of importance there.

Renamed and deleted the usual culprits:

%APPDATA%\Code
%USERPROFILE%\.vscode
%USERPROFILE%\.codex

Uninstalled Codex, reinstalled.

Disabled, then Developer: Restart Extension Host, then enabled.

Tried it with Admin which does work!

Uninstalled VsCode and reinstalled.

@kevinfoley the problem still occurs without the .git folder present:

Doh now its bricked my admin account too, it did load the Codex panel as shown. Codex was very slow and laggy as I pasted about 10 lines of text, then BAM!
