Codex App: “Show in menu bar” still leaves Dock icon after closing main window on macOS
What version of Codex are you using?
Codex App 26.608.12217 (CFBundleVersion 3722)
What platform is your computer?
macOS 26.5.1 (25F80), Apple Silicon / arm64
What issue are you seeing?
With Settings → General → Show in menu bar enabled, closing the main Codex window with the red close button keeps Codex running and shows the Codex icon in the macOS menu bar, but the Codex icon also remains in the Dock.
The expected behavior for this setting is that, once the main window is closed, Codex should remain accessible from the macOS menu bar/status item while no longer occupying a Dock slot. In other words, the app should behave like a menu-bar app while the main window is hidden/closed.
Steps to reproduce
- Open Codex App on macOS.
- Open Settings → General.
- Enable Show in menu bar.
- Close the main Codex window using the red close button.
Actual behavior
Codex remains visible in the Dock after the main window is closed, even though the menu bar icon is enabled and visible.
Expected behavior
After closing the main window, Codex should remain available from the menu bar icon and be removed/hidden from the Dock until the main window is shown again, or the setting should clarify that it only adds a menu bar icon and does not control Dock visibility.
Why this matters
Users who enable Show in menu bar generally expect Codex to stay available in the menu bar without taking Dock space when no Codex window is open.
