Alphabetical Sort. Add a Projects sidebar option to sort by name

What variant of Codex are you using?
App
What feature would you like to see?
The Projects sidebar should offer a sort-by-name option in addition to the current updated and created sort options.
Once the sidebar has more than roughly 10-20 projects, created and updated ordering stop being useful for scanning. I often know the project name I am looking for, not when it was last touched or created, so an alphabetical sort would make the list much easier to navigate.
Additional information
Related: #23462 covers project ordering that appears to use a hidden path/key instead of the visible project name. This request is for an explicit user-facing "Name" sort option alongside "Updated" and "Created".

+1 for this.
My main use case is having many projects for the same company/client. Sorting by created or updated is useful for recent work, but it makes it hard to scan the sidebar when I want all projects for one company grouped together.
An explicit alphabetical/name sort for Projects would make the sidebar much easier to navigate once there are many projects.
+1 from a Windows Codex App + mobile Remote workflow.
I keep many local project roots under a common directory (
C:\gvv\AI\...). Once the list grows, the current persisted/manual order is hard to scan, especially in the mobile Remote project picker where I want to jump to a project by name.A built-in alphabetical sort would be much better than editing local state (
.codex-global-state.json/project-order) by hand.What would help:
Right now my "workaround" for this is pin every project and then drag them around. It's a manual process, but works well enough. I have the projects section usually set to chronological. The split though is still odd. I'd prefer to have both chrono + projects sorted by name and not have to pin them all.
Small update: since the latest update, projects can be sorted manually now, and that fully solves my use case for the moment. I’m absolutely happy with that. Thanks!
I'd like an explicit alphabetical/name sort for both the Projects list and the Chats list in the Codex desktop sidebar.
My projects and chats are currently ordered by recent activity/last use, but I usually know the visible project or chat title—not when it was last used. Once there are many entries, this makes navigation unnecessarily slow.
Requested behavior:
Manual drag ordering is useful, but it does not solve the problem when the list changes or when there are many chats.
A concrete workflow where alphabetical sorting would add substantial value:
I use the sidebar as a two-level navigation system:
With dozens of long-lived projects,
Last updatedis a poor locator: recency is already represented by the pinned/attention workflow, while the project I want may not have been touched recently.Manual ordercan approximate alphabetical order, but it requires continual maintenance whenever projects are added or renamed. The cost grows with the number of projects. An automatic
Name (A–Z)mode would provide a stable, predictable index that maintains itself. This becomes especially useful when project names share meaningful prefixes and the sidebar is intentionally kept collapsed to avoid scrolling through every project's tasks. The same option would also be valuable for the Pinned section. If pinned task titles begin with their project name, alphabetical sorting groups active work naturally and makes it much faster to locate a known task.
PriorityandLast updatedserve different purposes and do not provide that deterministic navigation.Requested behavior:
Name (A–Z)independently for Projects and Pinned; This is less about cosmetic ordering than about making the sidebar usable as a scalable project launcher.
