Add optional sound effects for Codex App task completion and attention-needed states

What variant of Codex are you using?

App

What feature would you like to see?

I would like Codex App to support optional sound effects / audio alerts for important task states.

Suggested events:

  • Task completed
  • Codex needs user input
  • Approval required
  • Task blocked or failed
  • Long-running task has finished in the background

This would be especially useful when Codex is working on a task while I switch to another app, browser tab, terminal, or monitor. Right now, it is easy to miss when Codex has finished or is waiting for me.

Ideally, this would be configurable:

  • Enable / disable sound effects
  • Choose which events play a sound
  • Select from a few built-in notification sounds
  • Optional volume / intensity setting
  • Respect system mute / Do Not Disturb settings
  • Optionally allow a custom local sound file

The feature should be subtle by default and not play sounds for every small update, only for state changes that need the user’s attention.
