What feature would you like to see?
I would like Codex App to support optional sound effects / audio alerts for important task states.
Suggested events:
- Task completed
- Codex needs user input
- Approval required
- Task blocked or failed
- Long-running task has finished in the background
This would be especially useful when Codex is working on a task while I switch to another app, browser tab, terminal, or monitor. Right now, it is easy to miss when Codex has finished or is waiting for me.
Ideally, this would be configurable:
- Enable / disable sound effects
- Choose which events play a sound
- Select from a few built-in notification sounds
- Optional volume / intensity setting
- Respect system mute / Do Not Disturb settings
- Optionally allow a custom local sound file
The feature should be subtle by default and not play sounds for every small update, only for state changes that need the user’s attention.

Same need here. If you are on macOS, I built a small external version of this rather than patching Codex App itself:

Agent Island puts Claude/Codex session state in the MacBook notch and only alerts on meaningful state changes:
It can also auto-resume a selected long session when it can continue. Sharing as a workaround/status layer; native Codex sound settings would still be better for users who do not want another app.

This is pretty much what we built. It covers task complete, needs input, and approval events with configurable sounds per event type, plus phone push through ntfy for when you are away from your desk.
