Xcode 27 beta Codex sign-in fails only for ChatGPT Pro account requiring email OTP; Go account works

What version of the IDE extension are you using?

Xcode Codex agent 0.132.0 Codex CLI 0.139.0

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro (ChatGPT Go account signs into Xcode Codex successfully on the same Mac/Xcode/network.)

Which IDE are you using?

Xcode 27.0 beta Build 27A5194q

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

Xcode 27 beta Codex sign-in fails only for my ChatGPT Pro account. Browser/Safari login succeeds and shows “Signed in to Codex. You may now close this page,” but Xcode remains “Not Signed In” / “Requires Eligible Account or API Key.”

If I close the browser success page, Xcode stops loading and remains not signed in. If I do not close the browser success page, Xcode keeps loading.

This appears account-specific:

  • Same Mac
  • Same Xcode beta
  • Same Safari/auth flow
  • Same network
  • ChatGPT Go account signs into Xcode Codex successfully
  • ChatGPT Pro account fails
  • Pro account requires email one-time passcode verification during login
  • MFA/passkey were disabled for testing, but email OTP is still required

Codex CLI and Codex app both work with the same ChatGPT Pro account.
No VPN, corporate network, or SSL inspection is in use.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Xcode 27 beta.
  2. Go to Xcode → Settings → Intelligence → Codex.
  3. Choose “Sign in with ChatGPT Account.”
  4. Log in with a ChatGPT Pro account that requires email OTP verification.
  5. Complete the email OTP step.
  6. Safari/browser shows “Signed in to Codex. You may now close this page.”
  7. Return to Xcode.
  8. Xcode remains “Not Signed In” / “Requires Eligible Account or API Key.”

What is the expected behavior?

After successful browser authentication, Xcode should receive the callback/session and show my ChatGPT Pro account as signed in.

Additional information

Environment:

  • macOS: 26.5.1 (25F80)
  • Xcode beta: 27.0, build 27A5194q
  • Xcode app CFBundleVersion: 25183.29.15
  • xcode-select: /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer
  • Codex CLI: 0.139.0
  • Xcode Codex agent: 0.132.0
  • Codex CLI status: Logged in using ChatGPT
  • Browser/auth session: Safari
  • Apple Feedback Assistant: FB23120788

Already tried:

  • Cleared OpenAI/ChatGPT/Safari session data
  • Codex CLI login works
  • Codex app login works
  • Device auth / browser auth
  • Passkey disabled
  • MFA disabled
  • Safari HTTP warning setting checked/unchecked
  • File-based Codex auth config
  • Confirmed xcode-select points to Xcode beta
  • Quit/reopened Xcode
  • Tried changing default browser, but Xcode still opens Safari/auth session
  • Retried multiple times
  • No VPN is in use
  • No corporate network or SSL inspection is in use

See https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/832539 and links in the reply. There's many Codex & Xcode users running into this issue. For me the workaround suggested in various threads didn't work, can't use Codex in Xcode for now.

Having the same issue

I’ve been having the same issue regardless of whether I’m in the latest production or beta versions of Xcode. I’ve tried everything, including removing Xcode and all Apple Developer Tools, ChatGPT macOS app, Apple Intelligence ChatGPT extension in System Settings, and the Codex CLI tools and reinstalling them all.

I have two OpenAI accounts: one on Plus and one on Pro. Plus works, Pro doesn't (can't log in). Via "xcrun agent codex" in the terminal, both work fine. Tried Xcode 26.6 and 27.0 beta 3.
