What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Codex Desktop App (installed from Microsoft Store) CLI version: 0.139.0

What subscription do you have?

gpt plus

What platform is your computer?

Windows 11 x64 (Build 10.0.26200.8457)

What issue are you seeing?

Codex Desktop App does not launch on Windows 11.

When I run:

codex app

the following message is displayed:

Opening Codex Desktop workspace C:\Users\강민...

After that:

  • No GUI window appears
  • No taskbar icon appears
  • No error dialog appears
  • The application exits immediately

Launching Codex Desktop App from the Windows Start Menu produces the same result.

The CLI still works normally:

codex --version

returns:

codex-cli 0.139.0

and running:

codex

opens the terminal interface successfully.

Environment:

  • Windows 11 x64 (Build 10.0.26200.8457)
  • GPT Plus subscription
  • Codex CLI 0.139.0
  • Installed from Microsoft Store
  • User profile path contains Korean characters:

C:\Users\강민

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Install and launch Codex Desktop App on Windows 11.
  1. Open Command Prompt.
  1. Run:
codex app
  1. Observe the output:
Opening Codex Desktop workspace C:\Users\강민...
  1. No GUI window appears and the application exits immediately.

Additional notes:

  • Rebooting Windows does not resolve the issue.
  • Reinstalling Codex Desktop App does not resolve the issue.
  • Removing ChatGPT Desktop App does not resolve the issue.
  • The issue persists after reinstalling Codex.
  • Codex CLI continues to work normally.

What is the expected behavior?

The Codex Desktop App should launch normally and display the GUI when I:

  • Launch Codex from the Windows Start Menu, or
  • Run codex app from Command Prompt

The application should open the Desktop interface instead of exiting immediately.

The behavior should be the same as before when the Desktop App was functioning normally.

Additional information

Additional observations:

  • The issue started shortly after installing the ChatGPT Desktop App.
  • I cannot confirm whether the two events are related, but the timing was very close.
  • Removing ChatGPT Desktop App did not resolve the issue.
  • Reinstalling Codex Desktop App did not resolve the issue.
  • Rebooting Windows did not resolve the issue.
  • Codex CLI continues to work normally.
  • The Desktop App previously worked correctly on this same machine.
  • My Windows user profile path contains Korean characters:
C:\Users\강민

I am not sure whether this is relevant, but I wanted to mention it in case it affects Desktop App startup or workspace initialization.
