Windows Desktop App exits immediately after launch (26.609.4994.0)

What issue are you seeing?

Environment

• Windows 11 Pro
• Codex Desktop Version: 26.609.4994.0
• ChatGPT Desktop works normally
• VSCode Codex extension works normally

Problem

The Codex Desktop application exits immediately after launch.

When I start Codex:

• The process appears in Task Manager for about 1–2 seconds.
• Memory is allocated briefly.
• The process exits automatically.
• No window is displayed.

What I tried

• Reinstall Codex
• Uninstall and reboot before reinstalling
• Delete/rename local Codex cache folders
• Reset AppX package
• Re-register AppX package
• Windows Update
• Restart PC

Diagnostics

• No Application Error event log
• No CrashDump generated
• ProcMon shows:

• AppX container created
• Process created
• Process exits normally (Exit Status 0)
• AppX container removed

AppModel-Runtime logs:

• Desktop AppX container created
• Process created
• Container removed

No error events are generated.

Additional information

The issue was first noticed around June 5, 2026.

VSCode Codex extension continues to work normally on the same machine.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Install Codex Desktop from the official OpenAI distribution.

1. Launch Codex Desktop from:

• Start Menu
• Desktop shortcut
• Windows Search

1. Observe the process in Task Manager.

Expected result:

• Codex Desktop window opens normally.

Actual result:

• Codex process appears for approximately 1–2 seconds.
• Memory is allocated briefly.
• No window is shown.
• Process exits automatically.

Additional observations:

• ChatGPT Desktop works normally on the same machine.
• VS Code Codex extension works normally on the same machine.
• No Application Error event is generated.
• No crash dump is generated.
• ProcMon shows the process exits with status 0.
• AppX container is created and immediately removed.
